A Monument to Valor and Sacrifice
The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, also known as the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior, stands as a powerful testament to the valor and sacrifice of an unnamed hero, as well as to the collective memory of all those who gave their lives in service to our nation. Today, I had the profound privilege of standing shoulder to shoulder with Howard Schaeffer & Associates Howard Shaffer as we placed a wreath at this hallowed site. There are no accolades, no financial gains, nor any events that could eclipse the profound reverence and honor I experienced in this moment. Truly PRICELESS.
On February 3, 1943, a troop ship named The Dorchester was carrying more than nine hundred soldiers and military personnel across the North Atlantic. Today marks the 82nd anniversary of the sinking of the Dorchester. Accompany the Chairman of the Board for the Chapel of Four Chaplains Foundation, I was deeply honored to be included in laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
Standing on these hallowed grounds, where many leaders and every President since 1926 have stood, is an experience beyond compare. Who would have thought that Devell “BO” Durham Jr., born in 1962—the son of Devell “BO” Durham Sr., born in 1923, and the grandson of Henry Sylvester Devell Durham, born in 1865, a son of “The Unknown” —would one day stand in solemn reverence, overlooking our nation’s tomb of unidentified U.S. service members. To honor their sacrifice and to carry forward the legacy of my ancestors fills me with a profound sense of purpose and pride.
