Was accepted in the Marine Corps delayed entry program Jan 19, 1980 at 17 years old he
graduated high school from Newburgh Free Academy N.Y. on 23 June 1980, four days later he
underwent recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina, on 27
June 1980.
His military active duty service of over 30 years 9 months and 12days would send him deployed
to diverse locations that included South Korea, Tokyo, Iwakuni and Camp Fuji Japan, Haiti, Puerto
Rico, Singapore, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Malaysia, Thailand, Australia, Philippines, Palu, Hawaii,
Kwajalein island, Guam, Diego Garcia, Afghanistan, and concluding on Okinawa Japan June 11,
2010

Spending nearly ten years as a Sergeant Major throughout 1st Marine Aircraft Wing with
assignments at Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron -152, Marine Aviation Logistics
Squadron-12, Marine Aircraft Group-12 and completing his tour as the Sergeant Major of 1st
Marine Air Craft Wing covering the entire Pacific region
Bo Durham’s personal awards include the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal (two gold
stars in lieu of third award), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps
Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (gold star in lieu of second
award), the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, the Humanitarian Service Medal, Good
Conduct Medal (10th award) and various Unit and Campaign Awards.
Currently, SgtMaj Durham serves as the American Legion (AL) National Security Commission
Member, Chairman AL Department of North Carolina Internal Affairs Commission, Chairman AL
Department of N.C. War on Terror Committee, he’s the Past Department Division III Vice-
Commander, the Past District 11 Commander of Wake and Johnston County, past Commander AL
Post 71 in Clayton. SgtMaj Durham serves as the Marine Corps League (MCL) National Chairman
Youth Physical Fitness, currently a Board of Director member US Marine Youth Foundation, and
board member of MCL Foundation. He’s the Vice President of the Johnston County Board of
Commissioners Veterans Advisory Board, and an Executive Board member of Tuscarora Council
Boy Scouts of America. Mr. Bo Durham serves on the board of directors as the secretary for
Victory Academy & Victory Church of Raleigh.
